THE LAWYER IN NEW YORK - 07/07/2009
==========================================================
Still Sweet Sixteen?
-----------------------------------------------------------
This Thursday (9 July) Allen & Overy is set to unveil its 2008-09 financial results.
With the exception of the resolutely Dark Ages-loving Slaughter and May, the sole leading UK firm that still doggedly refuses to report its financial data (officially), A&O's figures will complete the picture for The Lawyer's Sweet Sixteen.
These are the firms that lead the world in terms of client base, global coverage and brand. Or at least, did.
This week we will know for sure how the top UK firms performed in comparison with their US counterparts during the worst recession in living memory.
In case you missed it, Clifford Chance has already taken a hammering, with PEP chopped in half (see story). But then, so has Latham & Watkins, forced to make more lawyer layoffs than pretty much any of its rivals (see story).
A&O much anticipated results will complete the picture at the very top of the global legal market table.
So far you could say it's been an interesting year. Looks like it'll be a fascinating week.
For more on this story see The Lawyer on Monday.
